The Australian visa application system just got easier with improved services and new centres.

Australia’s Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) and VFS Global have now undertaken the operation of providing Australian visa application services through Australia Visa Application Centres (VACs) in India and Nepal.

While the old centres have been upgraded, three new centres have been established to increase their reach and provide efficient services. The upgraded centres will have revised and convenient operating hours. Dedicated counters for applicants and travel agents/tour operators have been planned.Premium lounge facilities and a facility for “witnessing” copies of original passports and documents have also been added. To make the visa process smoother, scanning and mailing internet kiosks, SMS tracking application service and video conferencing facility for interviews will be provided.

The reason behind these reforms is the substantial increase in the number of Indians travelling to Australia. The year 2013 itself, saw around 1,00,000 Indian tourists. Out of which 50% were students.

VFS Global not only hopes to strengthen the relationship between India and Australia with this step, but also to make the visa process simpler and easier.
