The 5 Most Desirable Cities To Live In

The 5 Most Desirable Cities To Live In

If you’re planning on moving to another part of the world, you want to make sure you are in a place where you can feel welcomed and comforted. You wouldn’t want to pack up everything and move into a location that turns out to be something out of a Steven King novel. You want to live in a location that is considered to be a desirable place to move. Although the term “desirable” can be subjective, there are many locales around the globe that can fit the criteria in a general sense.

1. Melbourne, Australia

Fireworks explode over Melbourne city

If you have any faith in the rating system provided by the Economist Intelligence Unit, Melbourne, Australia is one of the highest rated cities in the world. The EIU takes into considerations various aspects of living conditions and pits them against a formula to determine what cities are the most desirable. For those who relish the city life, Melbourne supports more than four million citizens within the metropolitan area.

2. Vienna, Austria

The EIU isn’t the only organization that can put together a formula for tabulating desirable cities. According to the consulting firm Mercer, Vienna has won the title for quality of life and personal safety for three consecutive years. Ripe with history, this desirable city has a population density of more than 10,000 people per square mile. While this may seem like a large populace, keep in mind that New York City is nearly three times that amount.

3. Zurich, Switzerland

Another city that is coveted by many due to a better quality of life is Zurich, Switzerland. Nestled in the Northern most point of Lake Zurich, the beautiful landscape of this city is home to nearly 380,000 people. The unemployment level of the largest city in Switzerland was an amazing 3.2-percent in July of 2012. Considering the economy in other areas of the world such as the United States, this means it is easier to obtain a job regardless of the population size.

4. Vancouver, BC

In Canada, Vancouver, British Columbia is sought after as a jewel for improved quality of life in general. With access to the Strait of Georgia, this port city supports more than 600,000 people. Vancouver is one of North America’s most “greenest” cities by incorporating a great deal of renewable energy methods and reduced carbon footprint, and the government has aspirations to turn it into the greenest city in the world by 2020.

5. The Maldives

The atolls of Maldives

Although the Caribbean is known as a tropic paradise, the Maldives can easily share the title. This string of slender islands is covered by white sandy beaches and surrounded by crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean. With a population of over 320,000, the small island chain has a less population density that many of the capital cities within the United States. For those who hear the call of the ocean and the elation of island hopping, the Maldives is a wondrous place to live.

Although its beauty is nearly incomparable, the Maldives are endangered. Climate changes around the globe have begun to raise sea levels. As the water rises, the island chain is in danger of going under, as the elevation of much of the island chain is three to five feet. Many coastal cities that are close to sea level are threatened as well. Experts vary on the actual time the Maldives have, so if you plan on living in this tropical wonder, you need to act fast.

__________

There are several great locations around the globe and finding the most desirable destination for you will be determined by your own personal needs. If you’re interested in moving to a new part of the world, you should visit the location first. Although a locale may seem like a haven in your eyes while reading about the place on the Internet, the truth behind the images could lead to a mistake you’d rather not experience.
