Here’s a wildlife calendar to help you select the best time to visit the world’s most impressive wildlife destinations in 2014. In the latter half of January, millions of wildebeest gather on the plains of the Serengeti in Tanzania to calve. They stay here until mid-April. Plan your African safari holiday between January and April so it coincides with the calving season.
From January to April, whales are plentiful in Baja California, Mexico. Come here to watch Fin, Minke, Orca, Pilot, Humpback and even Blue Whales, the largest mammal on Earth!
January is the dry season in Costa Rica. Herons, ducks, spoonbills and other water birds congregate around the Nicoya Peninsula, making this a rich birding area.
Land iguanas begin breeding on Isabela Island and adult marine iguanas change their colour to bright shades of green, red and black on Espanola Island in the Galapagos. Green sea turtles also arrive here to lay their eggs on the sandy beaches.
SEAL PUPS IN THE FALKLANDS ISLANDS
After the calving season, seal pups begin to appear on South Georgia and the Falkland Islands.
In the heart of winter, Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks are teeming with some of the largest concentrations of free-roaming wildlife in the region. The beaches of Western Australia and at KwaZulu Natal in South Africa see hordes of nesting leatherback and loggerhead turtles, who come ashore to lay their eggs. Visit South Africa or plan a holiday to Western Australia and help with conservation of sea turtles.
Winters in the jungles of India are dry. Water is scarce and the grass turns brown with the dry heat. This is one of the best times to spot wildlife and tigers in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and other tiger reserves throughout India. Though it is cold, Visit Romania in February. It’s a great time to go wolf tracking.
Orcas being to arrive off the Valdes Peninsula in Argentina, by February until the end of April. Plan a cruise to Argentina around this time of the year.

Visit Zambia’s Bangweulu Swamps between April and May for a glimpse of the elusive Shoebill Stork, Black Lechwe and other waterbirds.
Visit Romania’s Danube delta around April, when it is wonderfully lush with birds.
April is when wild dogs begin to make an appearance in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park.

Lemurs are out and about, playful and plentiful during their courtship season around April. Visit Madagascar now for a chance to see these fascinating animals.
Waved albatross start to arrive in Espanola, Galapagos Islands around April. Visit the Galapagos Islands now, in time for their annual courtship.
