Himachal Pradesh, the most popular tourist destination in India also brags a widespread road network and other modes of transportation so that the travellers face absolutely no problem in reaching this beautiful state.


Himachal Pradesh has 3 domestic airports- the Kullu Manali Airport, Shimla Airport, which is roughly 13 miles from Shimla and Kangra Airport. All these airports are very well connected with the chief cities of India. There are many private taxis operating at these airports, so reaching your destination will not be a difficulty.
Travel tip: In winters, many flights do not operate due to bad weather conditions.

Due to jagged mountains, only some areas of the state have train connectivity. Kalka (90km away) is the nearest railway station to reach Himachal Pradesh. There are regular trains from Ambala to Kalka through a Narrow-gauge line.

Toy Train

Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh can also be reached by taking the Kalka-Shimla Toy Train. This train, also declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site connects Kalka and Shimla. It takes about 6 hours to reach Shimla passing through 18 railway stations, 102 tunnels and 864 bridges.


Road is the most proficient way of travelling to Himachal Pradesh. The state is well connected to the major cities via road. It is in fact just 343km from New Delhi. You can take a bus or hire a cab from New Delhi.
