Starting from May, for the next six months, Milan will play host to exhibitions, shows, events and a whole lot more. The Expo 2015 is expected to be attended by 20 million visitors.

A one of its kind event, the Milan Expo 2015 is the world’s first fair with an official food theme for the event: “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. This event will witness 145 countries bringing forth their unique flavours and fragrances.

The impressive Expo site , situated just outside Milan boasts of 54 national pavilions. Unlike previous expositions where smaller countries or countries with fewer resources would be grouped together geographically, Expo 2015 is creating food-themed clusters. This will allow countries to address various issues that are not bound by geography.

The 2015 Expo will feature exciting surprises and attractions from different cultures around the world. In the centre of it all, is a Tree of Life that will showcase spectacular light shows. For the next six months of the event, visitors can participate in shows, exhibitions, activities and experience a variety of parades, concerts, and enjoyable, interactive elements.

The opening ceremony:

The Open Air Theatre located on the Expo Site is where the opening ceremony took place. It  attracted media and people from all around the world. Italy started  the event with an Olympic Games Style opening ceremony, with an estimated budget of 20 million Euros. It also witnessed a minute’s silence to honour the lives lost in Nepal. The event was then followed by dazzling light shows, amazing performances and powerful speeches by Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi, Pope Francis and Milan mayor Giuliano Pisapia.

The authorities are hoping that the expo will start a spark that will help boost Italy’s economy. Expo 2015 will end on 31st October 2015.
