Why Tamhini Ghat?

Nestled in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra, this place has everything going for it – a serene environment with picturesque landscapes, along with adrenaline-pumped adventure activities. It is easily accessible from both Mumbai as well as Pune. Ribbon-like roads cut through lush green grass, while open waterfalls add to the monsoon charm here. An isolated spot, this place is perfect if you don’t want to share the rains with too many people.

Makes for an excellent monsoon getaway, don’t you think?

Top Things To Try At Tamhini Ghat

#1 Hikes

Garudmaachi High Places (outbound management training company) offers some great options for hikes and adventure. It also offers various on-site activities, which includes a specially-built stone tower that lets you make your way down a steep slope while being suspended by ropes. The staircase which leads to the top of the tower is quite interesting, and filled with inspiring quotes from mountaineers and adventurers.

Not an adventure enthusiast? Then simply climb up the tower for mesmerising views of the Sahyadri Range. Garudmaachi also arranges hikes that take you around the region’s waterfalls, streams, and promise panoramic vistas of the valley.

#2 Rafting & Kayaking

The Mulshi Dam, located just 32 kms away from Tamhini Ghat, is perfect for those looking for an adrenaline rush. Every morning, the dam releases water into the Kundalika River creating Grade II and Grade III rapids that are suitable for rafting and kayaking. Try it once, you won’t be disappointed!

#4 Explore The Ghat

After you’ve had your fill of adventure, take a walk around the quaint villages around the ghat. During monsoon, the play of lightning and thunder casts a magical spell on the entire landscape. To warm yourself, a cup of hot chai and spicy misal pav is highly recommended. This delicious food combination is available in several tiny shacks near the villages.

PS: Post the chai and misal pav, there’s a good chance you’ll probably find yourself dancing in the rains on the damp soft grass!
