Truly an extravagant affair

Truly an extravagant affair!

For the uninitiated, High Tea is primarily a British food tradition, which includes an afternoon treat of tea, sandwiches, scones and cake. The addition of ‘High’ refers to high back dining chairs used for seating, and a table on which this meal is served.

Add to this extravagant affair, an awe-inspiring celebration of African luxury and spectacular vistas, and you’ve got yourself an experience that’s nothing less than an adventure! The Sun International’s SunLux Collection is where you get to discover exactly this and more….

Delightful little treats

Delightful little treats

Let’s take a quick glance at the history of tea, the central ingredient of this delectable experience…

It’s the most popular beverage in the world, second only to water. However, the demand for tea wasn’t always this widespread. The first recorded tea-drinkers were the Chinese in the 10th century. Impressed with the medicinal properties of tea Laozi – an ancient Chinese philosopher, declared tea to be an essential ingredient in the elixir of life. It was only during the 16th century Portuguese exploration of the Far East that tea was first traded with the West. Soon it was introduced to the rest of the world, and by the 19th century, tea drinking was no longer the preserve of the upper echelons of society.

Enjoying a daily cuppa became a habit for people across all social classes.
