Long, long ago, in the year 1240, a pilgrim looking for a monastery in the old town of Pfafers discovered thermal springs gushing from a narrow abyss called Tamina Gorge, and took a relaxing dip in it. In 1716, the first ever bathhouse featuring baroque architecture in Switzerland was built beneath the Benedictine Monastery, Pfafers.
Circa 1840, a 4km-long channel was created to draw the hot springs to the more proximate village of Ragaz.
